On Community Colleges

I was happy to see strong support for the community colleges among the comments pertaining to proposed MUS [Montana University System] restructuring. I am proud to teach and research (yes, we are scholars too) at a community college, and in many ways feel they are equal or perhaps superior in their instruction to the universities, especially in terms of general education core requirements. Community colleges have, in the past, proven themselves to be both cost-effective and student-focused. No doubt in the future, the MUS system will understand the value of community colleges and consider them a major component in the overall scheme of higher education.
