After twelve years I am retiring from my position as Senior Editor effective with the publication of the spring 2002 issue. The editorial board is currently seeking a replacement. Suggestions from our readers are welcome.
There has also been a change in our funding. After more than a decade our relation to the Montana Federation of Teachers ended last year. We are of course grateful for that long period of support from that organization. It made The Montana Professor possible. For now our funding is coming from the six baccalaureate institutions in the Montana University System thanks to the cooperation of the CEO of each of those units. We especially thank George Dennison president of the University of Montana for his help.
The board is aware that this arrangement is not permanent. Rather we need to augment and eventually supplant this funding with direct funding from our readers. Fortunately The Montana Professor has been granted status as a not-for-profit corporation by the state and 50l (c) (3) status by the federal government thus contributions from our readers will be tax deductible. Our first fund drive will occur during the next academic year. More specific plans will be announced in the fall 2002.
I wish the board and the new editor(s) every success in the future. I know they will find it as rewarding as I did.
